Bible study: Do we understand the Old Covenant and the New Covenant?

How many times have you struggled with "thou shalt nots" of Scripture? Ever been hurt in church? Have you tried to follow the "rules" and it didn't work? Ever felt like a failure in your relationship with God? Join Pastor Jerry Herman when he shares a message with hope and healing.

We were visiting churches. We decided to check out Pastor Herman's church and were stunned by the message. It is biblestudycompany's message of hope that we need God's revelation and His help in walking with Him.

Many of us have a story where the  churches we belong to got off track and there were much hurt and disillusionment. Some of us walked away from God. But that is not where our hope should have been...on people.

Could the wounds be healed? Yes, by realizing people are broken pottery, but God wants us to put our whole dependence on Him, not on churches or people.

When churches preach "thou shalt  nots", Christ is saying "I am, and I will". Focus on Christ. Depend on Him and ask Him to change us with His power.

Listen to the truth of Jerry Herman's story and how he came from a legalistic church environment. The words were our story as well.

Pastor Herman, realized he was managing his Christian walk with the Lord in his own mind and fleshly decisions. He said, "I looked good on the outside but falling apart on the inside".

I think this is compatible with where I felt led today in my readings for Yom Kippur - that Yeshua has done and can do all things and that's how much we can depend on HIm seems to be in line with what I came to understand about how Torah applies today. Because He has done it and met every requirement revealed in Torah, we can participate in life in the way G-d calls us to and showed us in Torah through His Spirit. We can serve others and G-d through Yeshua who accomplishes all things in a very Torah observant way. That's where I find a struggle between my internal and external life though in terms of communal worship. It seems that for me the biggest hang up is the unbiblical practices in churches,. The holidays, communion, the church structure including even they're requirements for membership are just unbiblical. I always feel some obstacle to really completely participating that way. I also don't know the extent to which I should bring up what seems off as a woman. I think I would just cause problems as I'm not to teach people, or I wonder if I'm missing something myself in terms of how much Yeshua can do. Am I underestimating how much He has overcome by making a big deal out of these types of things when we know it's not made perfect till after He returns? But that just seems like misappropriating grace yet again as it's clear what is Biblical and not to me on this subject. I don't think it's my place to challenge church authorities as a woman, and I do believe in the same fundamentals in terms of salvation, so I end up keeping a lot to myself and just kind of hoping not to have to involve myself in the holidays too much. But it's like once you are going, there's no end to what you get pulled into if you really bring yourself there. That's why I have looked into Messianic Judaism, but my experience has been that Yeshua is undermined for the sake of elevating Judaism on that side of the spectrum. It just feels like no one is actually doing what is just Biblical as a community in my part of the world. I have lightened up for the sake of fellowship as I know the world is not perfect and we are waiting for Yeshua to make all this right. When something is revealed as unbiblical and wrong, how much do you push because on some level everything is wrong? I think that's just how far away from where we are supposed to be we are. At what point do you just depend on His grace because that's how far away we all are because if I wait for something perfect, I won't go anywhere to fellowship till the Kingdom. Maybe I'm being too proud that way, but I really do feel like I'm sinning to participate in Christmas and Easter and once you go to a church, eventually you have to deal with manmade requirements and additions from what I have seen. I'm also curious what he means by understanding the division between soul and spirit.
