A prolonged form of a primary verb, which is only used as an alternate in certain tenses; to lot, i.e. Determine (by implication, receive) especially by lot -- his lot be, cast lots, obtain.
KJV: According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
NASB: according to the custom of the priestly office, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense.
KJV: They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.
